Dr. John Becker graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri medical school in 1984 and completed a family practice residency at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center in St Paul Minnesota in 1987. After two years in private practice in Minneapolis he relocated to Santa Fe, and has lived happily in the mountain west ever since. He spent ten years working in the community health clinic in Espanola, NM, then known as Health Centers of Northern New Mexico, where after serving a stint as Medical Director, he turned to private practice in Santa Fe.

He opened Eldorado Family Practice in 2002 and still runs it as a solo physician, with the goal of providing truly personal care to his patients.  This old fashioned model, just him and his nurse, Renee, already contains within it some of the trendier ideas of current medical practice.  He can provide service similar to so called concierge practices, but doesn’t expect you to pay extra for that. And by working in partnership with you, together can achieve many of the goals of the patient-centered medical home: coordinated care, sensitive to your needs and informed by the best known current standards of primary care.

His other passion is search and rescue which he has performed for the last twelve years. A founding member of Atalaya Search and Rescue, he has served as their president, training officer, and is a Mountain Rescue Association Rescue Leader, focused on Wilderness Medicine and high angle technical rescue.  Skiing, mountain biking, and his beloved mutts round out the picture and keep him busy.

What is Family Practice?

Family practice is the branch of medicine concerning the total health care of the person and the family. A family practice physician can have a varied and extensive medical background, including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and geriatrics. A family physician has the skills and knowledge to provide care and health maintenance education for all ages. This physician is trained to diagnose and treat each member of the family, no matter what the problem.

Patients' Choice recognition reflects the difference a particular physician has made in the lives of their patients. The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients.
